Spring 2014 WRAP UP
Grand Final Teams
Congratulations to our back-to-back winning premiership teams - Open 1 Eagles and U23-1 Doves and to our back-to-back runner's up teams: U23-1 Firetails and U17-2 Lyrebirds. Well done girls.
Our Open 1 Eagles had finished in second position after regular competition, and faced the Sth Upwey Storm in the grand final. After a close game, the Eagles won convincingly 31-27, giving them back-to-back premierships in 2014. |
Meanwhile on the indoor courts, two Wantirna South teams were battling it out for the premiership. The Doves were looking at back-to-back premiership, while the Firetails, who had been denied a premiership during the winter season by the smallest of margins, were out to "right it" this time around. The Doves, who finished on top of the ladder, proved to be too strong for the Firetails, taking out the premiership by one goal!! Congratulations to the Doves, and well done to the Firetails, for making it as far as they did.
Back on the outdoor courts, the U17-2 Lyrebirds were up against Belcoma Toblerone. Despite finishing on top of the ladder, the Lyrebirds were defeated 24-28. Well done on getting this far, and claiming back-to-back runner's up in 2014.
By far, the 2014 winter and spring season has been a successful one for the club. On behalf of President Jo and the WSNC committee members, we thank all the players, coaches and assistants for their hard work during the year, and look forward to seeing all of you in 2015. |
WINTER 2014 WRAP UP
GRAND FINAL TEAMS
Congratulations to our winning premierships teams: U13-1 Rosellas, U23-1 Doves and Open 1 Eagles.
After finishing on top of the U13-1 ladder, the Rosellas had alot to lose on grand final day. The girls played a fantastic game, and were convincing against the Ferntree Gully Opal Blues winning the premiership 31-10. Well done!!! Highlight reel can be found here. |
Meanwhile, on the indoor courts, the U23-1 Doves were writing their own history. After finishing second on the competition ladder the Doves had to prove themselves against the Rowville Sapphires, who had finished in first place. The Doves played extremely well, getting on top of the opposition early in the game, and maintaining their lead until the final buzzer. The final score was 52-32. A solid win for the Doves - Well done girls!! Highlight reel can be found here.
|
Over on outdoor court 2, the U17-1 Firetails were up against first placed Monbulk Spartans. The Wantirna girls played an inspirational game, and unfortunately missed out on the premiership by the smallest of margins - 35 to 36.
The girls have a sense of humour, and went out of their way to tell us they didn't quite make it. Paige went on step further to reinforce to us how close the game was!! Well done on getting this far girls, and good luck next season.Highlight reel can be found here. |
The Open 1 Eagles were up against the Rowville Taipans at 1pm. The Eagles finished in second place at the end of the normal competition ladder, while Rowville finished on top, and the Wantirna girls were hungry for victory.
The girls pulled out all stops to win 49-40, giving Wantirna South their third premiership for the season! Well done! Highlight reel can be found here. |
Last but not least were the U17-3 Lyrebirds, who finished second on the ladder with 13 wins and were up against the Rowville Taipans, who finished on top of the ladder. It was a tough game for the Wantirna girls going down 34-46. The club is proud of you for getting this far, and better luck next season! Highlight reel can be found here.
