On grand final day, our two U23 teams were up to fight out for the premiership at 11am. On court 2 our Bellbirds were taking on St John's Jasper. At the end of regular competition, St John's were 2nd on the ladder with the Bellbirds finishing 4th. It was always going to be a tough battle, as our Bellbirds had lost both times they previously played against St John's during the season. It was a great game to watch, with the score line being close throughout the game. Unfortunately, St John's were able to get the upper hand, and win by 2 goals. Pictured is coach Kiley giving her players some useful advice before the game commenced.

Over on court 1, our Darters coached by Peng, were up against Rowville Lions. The Darters had won one and lost one against the Lions during regular season, and had lost against them in the semi finals. It was nice to see the Darters equal the score by winning by the smallest of margins - 33 to 32!!! Both Maddie and Tiarna were able to convert scoring opportunities to goals, especially when it counted. Well done girls! A great game to watch. The girls are pictured here with their trophies, and specially-made Mey Wun cupcakes. Peng has gone out of his way to remind us all how close the margin was.

At 1pm our Open 1 Sandpipers played against Boronia Marshall in the grand final. During the season, Boronia had defeated the Sandpipers 2-1, with the Sandpipers winning the semi final. Unfortunately, the opposition were got up early, and defeated us 43-52. Our Sandpipers did their best and we are proud of their efforts.
Over on Court 1, our U15 Kites (2nd placed on the ladder) were up against first placed Rowville Storm. Unfortunately the Kites went down 30-43. Congratulations for making it as far as you did. Pictured are our teams collecting their respective trophies. |
TEAM AWARD
This year's MDNA Best Club team was awarded to our U15 Rosellas. This team had a very difficult season, and despite facing massive losses round after round, the team, led by Coach Kristine, did not give up. They even managed to win a game during the season. Well done girls, and looking forward to seeing back in Spring. And yes, coach Kristine blends in very well and manages to look like one of the players (just like she did in their team shot)! |
In addition to recognising so many 10 year award recipients, our club has the honour of recognising our 15 year and 20 year service award recipients, with two being from the same family. For 15 years of continuous service:
