On indoor court 2, our Kookaburras had a nail-biting final on display. They were playing the top team in the division, and they were tough. At half time, the opposition had a lead of of 3 goals (11-14), extending this to 4 goals at the last change (21-25).
It was with great skill on the offensive, where the team were able to feed our goalers and our goalers converted, while on the other side of the court our defenders were intercepting almost every pass, halting the opposition's score line. We were also fortunate to have a great cheer squad, who's cheers got louder and louder (see video below) in the fourth quarter, especially when the Kookaburras took the lead for the first time. This inspired our girls to go all out, and they ended up as Premiers with a convincing scoreline of 34-31. A well deserved win. Congratulations! Photo gallery is posted here. |

Over on Indoor Court 1, our U23 Firetails were playing in their grand final, against Rowville. The girls came out in full force from the start, building a convincing lead, winning 52-40. Well done to all.
An interesting bit of Trivia here is that both the U13 and U23 are coached by the same person, and it was extremely difficult for Ash to coach two teams at the same time, even though they were playing on adjacent courts. Irrespective, the result was a great one, and pictured below is coach Ash with his two premiership sides sporting some nice premiers trophies :-) |
Our 2nd U23 team to be in grand final were the U23-2 Bellbirds. The girls started extremely well, and maintained this up until the final buzzer winning the premiership convincingly 34-14. Photo gallery for this game can be found here. Our last team who had made it into the grand finals was the Open 3 Falcons. Despite injuries, and putting in the "hard yards", the girls were defeated 18 to 44. Falcons photo gallery can be found here.
